POST 397 SCHOLARSHIPS

 



CLYDE E. MOSLEY SCHOLARSHIP

                This scholarship will provide three deserving and qualified students the sum 
                of $500.00 each to be applied to the cost of ndergraduate study at any degree 
                granting college or university or credited certificate type course.  Each 
                application will be reviewed by our Scholarship Committee.  There is no 
                financial need requirement attached to this.  Applications are available 
                at the Post.  
                ELIGIBILITY:
                1. Applicant must be a member of Post397 American Legion Family.
                2. Must be enrolled as a full time student. 
                3. Must submit the application no later than July 1st of any given year.

AMERICAN LEGION DEPT. OF MISSOURI VETERANS' SCHOLARSHIP

            Two $1000 Scholarships will be awarded annually to eligible veterans that are currently planning on 
            attending a vocational technical college or university in Missouri.  The Education & Scholarship Committee 
            of The American Legion, Department of Missouri will determine the recipients of the scholarship.
            
            BASIS FOR ELIGIBILITY:
            
            1.  Applicant must have served in the U>S> Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force or Coast Guard for a minimum of 
                90 days and have received an honorable Discharge.  Photocopy of DD214, discharge of Separation papers 
                must be included with application.
                
            2.  Applicant must be enrolled or accepted as a full time student in an accredited vocational technical
                college or university in Missouri.  Letter from institution must be attached.
                
            3.  Applicant must be a resident of Missouri.
            
            4.  This scholarship must be used the following semester after it is awarded.
            
            5.  Completed application form with all attachments should be submitted by April 20 to:

ORATORICAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

 

            The High school student sponsored by Post 397 from schools surrounding the Post area will be 
            awarded a $250 scholarship, payable to the school of choice upon graduation, by participating 
            in the 10th District Oratorical Contest.  

            In addition, each contestant will receive a $5,000 scholarship to Lindenwood University which 
            can be incremented by an additional $5,000 with contest participation.  This can total up to a 
            $20,000 scholarship if the contestant enters once for each of the four years of high school for 
            simply participating.

WINNER AWARDS FROM $650 TO $7,000 AND MORE !

            Post 397 sponsored Students who win First Place at the District contest get an 
            additional $100 along with a $300 award from the 10th District.  If the same
            student receives first place in the following zone IV contest, another $250
            is awarded by the Post.  The Department contest follows with awards from $1,400
            to $2,000.  Thus, participation from Post 397 could achieve $7,400 plus the 
            $20,000 Lindenwood Scholarship.  Those who go on to win the National Level
            Awards receive from $14,000 to $18,000 additional awards.

            February 5................... Zone IV Contest, Festus, Mo. 1:30PM
            February 26.................. State Finals, Jefferson City, Mo.
